Kindness Matters

Last week, a kindergarten student, named Ella, requested a meeting with me. Imagine my joy while, during the meeting, she explained to me that she wanted to have a kindness challenge at Village Elementary. Her goal was to have more children engaging in random acts of kindness. To honor Ella's idea, throughout the month of February, teachers will be recognizing acts of kindness demonstrated by students. Our bulletin board by the entryway will recognize these efforts with cut-out hearts. I encourage you to talk with your children at home about ways they can be recognized at school with acts of kindness and perhaps encourage these behaviors at home as well. Thank you, Ella, for creating this wonderful challenge!

100th Day Food Drive
Our 100th day of school is coming upon us and typically falls right around Valentine's Day. This year marks at least 10 years of VES supporting the York Food Pantry with a 100th day food drive. Each classroom sets a goal of collecting 100 items to provide to the food bank. We understand some of the items requested are more expensive than others and we only ask for you to contribute what you can. Staff without classrooms also help support the food drive to encourage collecting 100 items per classroom. The food pantry depends on our community and VES families to help restock the shelves this time of year. Thank you for your support with this service learning project.

We go outside almost everyday and your child needs to be prepared. The following picture is a good guideline to consider when sending your child with outdoor clothing for the day. Should you need support purchasing winter clothing for this season, please reach out to our school counselor, Amanda Benoit, our school nurse, Lorinda Layton, your child's teacher, or me. ~April Noble, Principal
